Meet the Artist: Hiʻilei Manoʻi-Hyde


A fluent speaker of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and a prolific composer, Hiʻilei wrote this mele to honor Crown Prince Albert Edward Kauikeaouli Kaleiopapa a Kamehameha, who died at age 4. The young son of King Kamehameha IV (Liholiho) and Queen Emma was the godson of Queen Victoria of England. This mele won a Language Arts sponsored Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo Achievement Award.
